City-tax software for accommodation providers

Every municipality calculates differently: per person, per night, by season, with exemptions for children and business travellers. Doing this by hand means errors or wasted hours. zimrly knows the rules of 370+ places in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, calculates the tax per booking automatically and turns the data into your municipal report.

Why manual city-tax handling goes wrong

Your municipality's bylaw has special cases: children free up to X, business travellers exempt, seasonal rates.

zimrly models the local rules and calculates per guest and night — exemptions included, instead of rough estimates.

The tax must appear correctly on the invoice — as its own line, often with a different VAT treatment.

Combined with invoice automation, the city tax lands automatically as a clean line on every guest invoice.

The municipal report means quarterly stress: gathering occupancy numbers, filling in forms.

zimrly aggregates the numbers from your PMS bookings and generates the report export at the press of a button.

In an audit you must prove how you calculated.

Every calculation is documented per booking — basis, rate, exemptions.

How to automate city tax

  1. 1

    Pick your place and bylaw

Choose your place from the database — rates and rules are preloaded. If yours is missing, we add it.

  2. 2

    Connect your PMS

zimrly reads guests, nights and stay periods from your existing PMS — the calculation basis builds itself.

  3. 3

    Report instead of calculating

Generate the export at the due date and submit it to the municipality. Optionally the tax flows onto invoices automatically.

Frequently asked questions

Does zimrly know my municipality's rates?

The database covers 370+ places in Germany, Austria and Switzerland. You can look up your place instantly in the free city-tax calculator. If it's missing, we add it.

What about exempt guests (children, business travellers)?

Exemptions and reductions are part of the stored rules. Business travellers can be flagged per booking and are exempted or reduced according to the bylaw.

Does this replace the official report via my municipality's portal?

zimrly produces the prepared numbers as an export (e.g. CSV) that you submit or transfer to the portal. Direct interfaces to registration systems like AVS or feratel are in preparation.

Does this also cover bed tax / city tax in cities?

Yes — whether visitor's tax, tourism levy or bed tax: what matters is the local bylaw, and that is exactly what's modelled.
